There are 13,000 undocumented kids incarcerated in internment camps in the USA. Under the Trump Administration's "zero tolerance" policy those seeking asylum are no longer protected by law and are treated as criminals. The courts have stopped the separation of families for the time being, but ICE continues to break up families by deporting parents.

To make a statement against these inhumane practices and to support those who are helping these young people I have created a large sculpture of the head of the Statue of Liberty broken at the neck, fallen on the ground, and cracked open at the forehead. Looking through the crack one sees a migrant child curled up asleep in the bottom of the skull. She has found refuge.
